Throughout his career, Nick has helped companies develop new experiences, understand their customers and transform their digital strategies.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Nick led and designed experiences for various A.I. enabled products at IBM Watson.
Nick specializes in visual design, interaction design, user research, facilitation, coaching, agile processes, and product planning. When not reading about design and technology, Nick spends his time hiking and photographing nature.

OVERVIEW
To kickstart the IBM Watson ecosystem program, IBM partnered with select companies and tasked our team to design a set of visionary experiences to showcase the future of cognitive computing. One of our partners was Welltok, a healthcare company whose mission is to transform the nation’s healthcare system. Together we created CaféWell powered by IBM Watson, a fitness app with a cognitive fitness assistant.
As a group, we ideated on different concepts and stories which were presented to stakeholders. Through various rounds of feedback and iterations, we arrived at two solid storylines and set of concepts. These highlighted different capabilities, user types and scenarios. Besides participating in all design activities, I led the visual and interaction design of the concept app.
Our first story focused on Kate, a recent young mother whose fitness goal was take care of her recovering body and to slowly get back in shape. Then we have Ethan, a father of two who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He was looking for advice on how to change his lifestyle from eating habits to exercise routines. With the help of IBM Watson, Ethan and Kate effortlessly received a personalized fitness itinerary based on their individual goals, likes and constraints. Both concepts were extremely successful at showcasing the potential for embedded cognitive computing. Our partners loved the vision and together with IBM continue working on delivering these capabilities.
